Secure, online purchasing via the web has been with us for a while. More and businesses and non-profit associations take advantage of this capability every day. The Majec Systems team has had a long working relationship with the Texas Library Association (TLA) in the development and improvement of their online presence over the years.

Texas Bluebonnet Award StoreThe TLA wanted their members to be able to purchase store items online. Building upon an earlier project, the Texas Bluebonnet Award (TBA) online store, the TLA and TBA stores were combined into one common shopping cart application. The improved web site would let members purchase items from both stores and use a single checkout/payment process.

The design included an SQL database to handle the inventory of both stores. A web site was created to display available items from either store along with prices and optional photos. TLA members enter the quantity of each of the items they wish to purchase and add it into their shopping cart. They can then review and modify the items in the cart and continue through the checkout process. On the checkout page, the member can specify if they are exempt from sales tax and enter their shipping address and credit card information.

Texas Library Association StorePayments are submitted and verified through the PayPal service. Once the payment is approved, the member receives a confirmation web page and an email with their order number and link to a tracking page.

On the back end of the process, the TLA fulfillment staff uses a Microsoft Access-based application to monitor incoming orders and handle the shipment work flow. Another Access-based application is used by the staff to manage the inventory for the stores.

Majec System's Maryanne Moore provided overall project management and managed the development of the web page, SQL interface, and a portion of the database design. She partnered with Nancy Kromar for the SQL design and Microsoft Access interface.
