PROJECT-SPECIFIC SECURE FILE SHARING SITE

In 2003, a major automation supplier's globally-dispersed project engineering team needed a way to exchange key project information through a secure extranet with a large oil and gas producer. The sensitive nature of the project information necessitated that this file sharing site be located on the automation supplier's extranet server. The cloud computing model had not yet matured to a point to have confidence in third party hosting for this project.

The Majec team created a web application that provided for three types of access to the project content. Access was based on a login and password supplied to each project member. The login access was developed using the form login feature of Microsoft's .Net Simplified User Access which maintained the secure file access required for the project.

An administrator login provided for file uploads from the administrator's PC or any connected file share to the file repository on the extranet server. The administrator was able to place files in one of two repositories. These project files were grouped based on five areas of specification defined by the client.

Project members with valid login access were presented with a web page with 5 selections. Picking any of these selections provided a list of files available for download.

The entire site was built and deployed in four business days.
