MOBILE APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT FOR APPLE iOS SMART PHONES

A curiosity of the ever-growing trend of mobile application development lead to the creation of Majec System's president, Ed Guinn's first iPhone App, The Cat's Meow, now available in the iTunes App Store.

The Cats MeowHere is the description for this application:
If you love cats and think they are funny this app is for you. It's a simple list of kitties that all speak in different voices. You can vote on your favorite cat and check in the next day to see if they were voted "Cat of The Day". Soon you will be able to upload pictures of your cat and they might become the favorite "Cat of The Day".

Ed highlighted the technical challenge involved in this application development project. It started with the need for remote database access to populate the app. The next challenge was to synchronize the results between the remote PHP web service providing the MySQL database connection and the individual iPhones each of which have their own local SqlLite3 database. Each of the individual iPhone iOS devices needed to be synced with the Web Services DB.

Based on his work in developing this app, Ed noted that Apple's Objective-C programming language is similar to Java and C# but proved especially challenging because it also incorporates aspects of Smalltalk, an early object-based programming language.
