EVENT WEBSITE FOR GLOBAL INDUSTRY AND PROCESS AUTOMATION EVENTS

Many websites are created with a lot of energy and enthusiasm only to become stale and lacking new content after launch. One company's website manager wanted to have ways to keep the site fresh with content from new product developments, customer successes, and events happening globally in the industries and regions this company served.

One idea to promote freshness in the website was to create a database-driven listing for industry events including trade shows, fairs and courses with links to event information. The event links included registration pages to help increase monthly traffic, give people a reason to come, and build a digital footprint for the site to be more easily found through the search engines. The value to website visitors was to provide an easy way to stay on top of technologies and trends for the process manufacturing industries.

The company's web manager turned to the Majec Systems team to create this database-driven application and website front end. Maryanne Moore project managed and led the development team for this effort.

The website launched in July 1999 with a database of over 200 events. It provided for intuitive browsing by event, date, world area, and industry. Visitors could submit events to be included in the site. The site also allowed for the display of banner ads to help fund its ongoing support.

An administration site was also designed and built to provide a way to manage the event listings including annual updates to the complete listing, deployment and management of banner ads, and approval of event submissions. The website automatically deletes events from the public listing once the last date of the event had passed.
